Looking for Intimacy That Never Was
by Darren C. Demaree
|
I have a problem
alone. I quit
drinking so I am
alone all the time
now. Every time
I visit the museum
I leave him a note.
He doesn’t drink
either. He doesn’t
write back either,
but I’m used to that.
When I return,
the old letter is gone
& there is an opening
for a new letter.
That was all I ever
needed, to not pile
up in a public place.
I imagine the museum
is collecting my letters
in a file somewhere.
Some day all of these
fragments will make us
both feel quite whole.
