Perchance to Dream (for Buddy)
by E.B. Reid

And you
were wrapped in one of our best towels
and layed in a hole
dug deep in the not yet frozen ground.
And your brave little body
was covered with rocks from the mountain
and soil from the family compost.
And the dogs near and far howled/echoed
both inside our heads and
outside in the hemisphere
as if to sing the praises of your glory.
And we didn't say goodbye
as that would mean you were gone.
We only whispered in our hearts
that we loved you.
And we left you
in the mist of dusk
to rest.
