Post Prostate Surgery
by Ann M. DeVenezia
|
This man lies in his hospital bed
not speaking, an intravenous in his arm
gallons of Sorbitol flushing him clean
Pink-tinged bloody urine
drips through the tube
into a thick see-through bag
His wife of fifty years sits nearby
writing this poem for him
words full of anxiety and hope
She stares at the thin plastic catheter
praying for pure clear liquid
dismayed by his colorful display.
