Arizona, 1
by Hillary Lyon

no resort planner armed here
and hiding in the background
arranging campfire standbys
and rock-climbing
multi-facited agendas

instead roving posses pass through
red rock escarpments
taste the rugged quick-draw
in the epicenter
of regular gunfights framing

the backdrop for bragging
a mechanical bull for private rodeos
held in the flatland gash
for an audience of roped calves
canyoneering airplanes
and a pocket full of land-grab angles
