(Two Dreams)
by Jeff Arnett
|
1.
Laughing chord by chord
in a daisy chain of song
unraveling behind me
as I swallow a melody
so small it will fit
under my tongue
before I awake
to the lark of morning
stars still sparkling
in dreaming night.
2.
On my bicycle
I follow the dark birds
to a house in the meadow
of tall grass on the hill
where vultures circle.
They are expecting me and
as always, I feed them
yesterday’s fear.
With the dream clenched
in my teeth
I bicycle home
on my fat balloon tires
unafraid of the life
awakening inside me.
