Mixed Metaphor

We argued for ten minutes
whether she was a rose
or a tulip.
Her glistening evaporated
into my tone of speech
far too foreign for the body.
Sometimes the quest
for the perfect word
destroys a perfect poem.
But poets have always
been guilty of mixing
their work with their pleasure.
