Death on a River
by Ken Hada

I would like to believe
most of them were not aware
of those cruel seconds
between living and dying

when, before the sun was warm,
a blitzkrieg of lethal water
ambushed their sleepy camps,
entombed so many

tented, bed-rolled, shrouded
for their dusty graves
once their sopping bodies
can be found.
