Tattered Blue Endings
by Jean McLeod

She’d spun her morning
too far toward dusk
dressed yesterday’s body
in today’s fashion
nurtured dependence,
twined it through
the vulnerability
of her glass-slippered dance
as she skipped from
bar, to bottle, to bed,
until her façade fragmented
and the keening began.
